I choose my problem because out of many countries, America is number one when it comes to obesity. My real point that I tried to make in my Satire Essay was that being obese can easily be fixed. Obesity is not a worldwide disease that you are stuck with for the rest of your life. It is just a series of bad, unhealthy habits that you can fix with a bit of lifestyle remodeling. The best audience of my satire would be people who once were obese. They would understand my satire completely. The worst audience for this satire would be people who are currently obese. They might feel too offended by the puns and hyperboles used in my essay. I choose a news article for my societal problem because usually the United States's nationwide problems are usually in them. I also chose the news article to exaggerate how extremely fatal and unreversable Americans think obesity is. My response effectively satires the issue of obesity because of my many puns and hyperboles about obesity. For example, in my satire news article I used hyperbole by exaggerating that obese children break swings and warp monkey bars. I used a pun writing "Obesity is not a good WEIGH to live". Also at the end of my satire news article, it was ironic that America's new problem became starvation.
FAT America!"Obesity is one of the greatest health threats facing the United States in recent decades." America's current epidemic is obesity. Our numbers of obese adult americans have soared from 1990 through 2010. The signs of childhood obesity is everywhere with signs of broken seesaws, swings and a touch of warped monkey bars. The Federal government takes the VERY difficult role of combatting obesity in America. It won't be so easy fighting someone who is SO much larger than them. Obesity is a major part of their campaign and they aim to stop obesity by launching a series of initiatives. Senator John Mkcoy finally announces his strategy called "Not a Good WEIGH to Live". It is a list of ways that America's Obesity Epidemic can end for sure, including poising food, turning sidewalks into treadmills, or eliminating food altogether. The more "infected" patients get vaccines enabling them to stop eating by making all foods taste like celery. "We don't want obesity to infect everyone!", Mckoy states, "America is finding a cure to the disease of obesity". These procautions have already begin to take effect. People have dramatically shrunk so much! "Still, now a new epidemic takes effect", says Surgeon Bill Mays. Mays states that America has crawled on the charts with India and China being one of the world's most starving nations. Silent but ViolentIrony: "Although I'm secure enough to ride a hot-pink Schwinn girl bike, I'll never be confident enough to ride anything with tassels" It's ironic because he should be embarrassed about riding a girl bike instead of being embarrassed of tassels. Hyperbole:"If I were racing Lance Armstrong tonight, he would be losing." It is an exaggeration because he is stretching the truth. Pun: "Taco Belle" The girl worked at Taco Bell and lived in the South. She was a "Southern Belle" Is this a satire? No, it isn't based on any serious events. It's just a funny story. High School Students Demand Wars....Irony: "High School students demand war in easier-to-find countries" The students shouldn't encourage war.
Parody: This article is poking fun at high school students lack of geographical knowledge and is "imitating" how high school students think. Understatement: In the article, the high school students aren't understanding that war is a big deal ; they only see war as not such a big deal. Is this a satire? Yes, because its making fun of an extremely serious matter. |
